Fibre drop funding for schools
On October 28, 2010 the Ministers of Education and Information and Communications Technology announced the Government’s decision to wholly fund fibre drops (the fibre that connects your school to the fibre in the street) for state and state-integrated schools under the Ultra-fast Broadband and Rural Broadband Initiatives taking place over the next five years.
Previously schools connecting to fibre have been required to contribute to the fibre drop cost (20% for state and 32% for state integrated schools). The change means that no further subsidies will be available to fund fibre drops to schools undertaken in advance of the national fibre rollout programme.
